Latin name: Aetheroleum Chamaemelum Nobile

Description of the plant: Chamomile stem is branched, the leaves are narrow and feathery. Height ranges from 15cm to 60cm. The flower heads are grouped at the top of the longer stems on the plant, and the flowers are bordered with white petals while in the middle they are yellow. The petals are generally slightly bent downwards, and the yellow part of the flower has a cavity in its center due to which it appears to be slightly convex. The flowers have a diameter of 1.5 to 2.5 cm.

Method of obtaining essential oil: Steam distillation

Properties of the oil: The oil is pale yellow to bluish in color, unlike Germanic chamomile, which is blue in color due to the greater presence of azulene.

Application: Unlike German chamomile, Roman chamomile is rich in esters, which makes it a very effective antispasmodic, mild sedative and anxiolytic. Due to its calming properties, it is used for nervousness, insomnia, stress and various forms of spasms.

– Clinical studies have shown that it increases the level of cortisol in the blood in the morning, which leads to the anxiolytic effect of the essential oil of Roman chamomile.

– It is used in compresses for rheumatic and joint pains.

– Topically used for acne problems, inflammatory skin processes, adding up to 1% in day creams for regular facial skin care

Method of application: topical application and inhalation,

Topical application in adults: 9 drops of oil in 30ml of neutral oils such as almond, olive, jojoba or added to day creams for daily skin care

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS): Gently massage the abdomen and lower back in a light circular motion, clockwise.

Against joint pain: A 5-10% solution of a solution of Roman chamomile essential oil in some carrier oil is used and the dressing is applied to the sore spot. For better effect, the aromatherapist’s recommendation is to wrap the sore spot with a transparent foil after applying the dressing.

 

Upper respiratory tract problems: by inhaling 2-3 drops in hot water, or adding a few drops to an aroma diffuser.

 

Use in children: in addition to lavender oil, essential oil of Roman chamomile is the safest for use in babies and is used for massages for cramps and high temperatures in children. Recommended for babies older than 3 months.
